Satyam Computer Services Ltd (NYSE: SAY) in its typical Bureaucratic style has indefinitely delayed its 2008 Appraisal process much to the dismay of its 50000+ employees.
To make matters worse the company has not even informed its employees for the reason for this delay.
Attrition levels are expected to shoot up due to this. The company continues to work like a soviet era government run agency!
Markets should take note of this fact and expect satyam to loose out on talented people due to such outrageous actions.
Top Management/HR have utter disregard for people.

Some of the HR section has informed its units, But When — When the earlier promised date had already passed, but again True to Satyam standards no reason was given, so we accept it as a bureaucratic delay. And on top of that HR managers have guts to say please don’t forward this mail to any other Unit. That was a bit strange — It means one HR (handling a specific unit)does not want people in other Satyam units to know that they have delayed it, it does not make any logical sense. I am sure all Satyam people are delayed and not just one unit so what is the hiding factor behind it.
Keeping aside these issues of communication, It seems if Satyam can’t put its act together and keep its 50K people in dark about the appraisals, it is not a healthy sign
Secondly, If even after 4-5 months of excercise, the results of apparisals and also the hikes get delayed by a month that is a bit of ’shame’.
Satyam talks of Business Transformation Together I think it has to employ the same excercise internally 1st and then sell the same to its clients.

No, it’s not true.I spoke to one of HR, he told me that they will releasing the hike letters within 2 weeks. Moreover,Satyam was awarded a big project from a new big clientfew days back, and satyam is on look out of people on bench. Satyam guys no need to worry, you are in a safe position,bcoz at this juncture satyam need more no. of people.

The news regarding appraisal is true….it really unfortunate that the one of the top IT company SATYAM is not informing their associates and also not completing their appraisal on time..Moreover for cost cutting they have started curbing the cabs of employess,and many other activities tht i wouldnt mention here.

Satyam cut the apprailsal Incremental letters and they decreased Average hike to 7%(It will be comprised in performance bonus).This year satyam attrition rate will be more than 30%. Satyam Hr people, Exist help desk and finance are very busy right now as many employees putting down papers.

They call themself as India’s no 4 IT service provider but even smaller comapnies take care of theri employess in a much better way. I can understand that with such a huge employee count personal care is not possible but can somebody tell me what the hell is Satyam HR team is doing. Why the hell they are not able to complete Appraisal process in 5 months. To add on that no associate has confirmation as when they can expect letter and what is the reason of delay. It is really disgustin……If Anybody from Satyam HR team and top management is reading this post, pls reply

I think HR ass usual is ch…a in Satyam. So no more new complaints or bricks can be thrwon at them. But this time it seems it is top mgmt qwhich has decided to hold back the increments and delay it due to whatever reasons - they are waiting for people to quit or waiting for cues from US or …..
Overall it sucks to be a part of Satyam. I am at least happy that I don’t have to deal with Stayam on a day to day bsis as I am at onsite and abroad clients are much better than Satyam people (esp. HR and mgmt etc.)

“Lack of communication” to employees is not a good sign for a CMM level [marching towards North Star/billion dollar/etc.,] company, don’t they have a courtesy to inform… Hey so called top management or HR why you guys didn’t communicated well in advance about the delay in appraisal … In mid of July most unit HR circulated a mail stating “Our Sincere appreciation to each one of you, for being mature & patient enough to hear towards closure of the Salary revision Process 2008. We will release of appraisal Letters to associates on or before Mid August, 08” [Date differs to each unit]. After august 15th also no one communicated about the delay [I hope august 15th is called mid August but it may differ to top management since they are all working with out knowing date/month/year “Pillars of the company”], After a week or so we received a mail stating “We couldn’t finish the appraisal process by Aug 08… we will hopefully finish it in September 2008” [So you guys still don’t know whether it will happen in September]
At least for the first instance its fine but it seems to be a series of instances [What the hell you are all doing] Now it’s in open guess to employees by not giving the specific dates “Simply saying September 2008”.
You guys took the advantage of market condition/attrition rate. We see the real face/kind heart of you guys to your employees [Money earning cow in your jargon] everyone will have there own commitment on there salary from a lay man to techie….. [Don’t ever talk about process to any client or employee if you can’t follow it]. I hear from HR and finance for ages if we ask any clarification in policy they simply ask us to refer power on [Do u guys have a process/policy for appraisal?]

What ever it may be , The people sitting in HR unit should inform the employees whether there is an increment . If it is not there inform emplyees directly what is the big deal in that.

Employees at India’s 4th Largest IT Company - Satyam Computer Services Ltd., frustrated by the fact that Management continues to turn a deaf ear to their cup of woes, have decided to go on mass leave on the 2nd of September. This is likely to have a huge impact on Satyam’s earnings this quarter. According to sources, Employees are extremely upset at the fact that management & HR have once again delayed the Appraisal Process by a month. The Entire Appraisal Process had initially been delayed for 2 and a half months.
There are also reports doing rounds that Satyam is bleeding due to the state of affairs in the UPaid Case. Satyam Management, in a desperate attempt are also in talks with undisclosed companies for a possible take over bid.
Investors ought to continue to monitor the internal turmoil within the company .

Hi,
It is just a bad management. What is big in informing the associates time to time regarding the delay so causing no chaos among the associates. As HR people are just like other associates so blaming them won’t be fair.
It demands some one from management to answer the reality. The point is be true to your associates. You have big client base and you need not to worry about the telling the truth.
So appeal is to come out and say the truth, at least internally to your associates… the real cause of delay.

Satyam is planning on layoffs too….those on bench will get the boot…Aptitude tests have alrady begun here. Dont know what is going to happen. It will be the after a long time Satyam will be giving away pink slips. Hope these bad time go by very quickly but as the experts are saying its gonna stay like this for 2 more years. Indian IT industry in going down the gutter.

I worked for Satyam during year 2006 (about 8 months) and then work for a USA based MNC and when after 2 and a half years, I changed my job (from USA based to some other company) then I came to know that I am a absconder in Satyam even when I have all the documents (Salary Certificate/Releaving Letter/Experience Certificate/Form 16/Full and Final Settlement) with me.
Please let me know what action should I take against this unethical company?
They will send the ‘ABSCONDED’ status in each and every BG verification when I change my job.
I am thinking for the Legal Action against Satyam.

Yeah Sanhita, u right, i know peopel who have been asked to resign without any PIP’s or anything. Jus a mail to meet the HR and then he/she is asked to resign- on gun point. when asked fro a day or two’s time, they are denied that as well.

The whole thing is about last year’s appraisal i.e. Apr 2007- Mar 2008 and see when the people get the visible effect

If it takes 7 months for people to get any value out of their last year efforts it speaks volumes about the company processes as well as moral ethics. While any billing to client is raised right on time,come it rain, sunshine, storm, but for IT labour class all the BS reasons can be applied by Satyam to act on time.

I am a satyam employee and I have still not received my Appraisal Letter. On enquiring with HR, I found out that the management is still working on the appraisal and would be closed shortly. This is very frustating.
