Wipro - Lack of competency

April 27, 2008 · Filed Under appointments, corporate darkroom, firing · 17 Comments

From one of our readers

You would have just heard that Wipro again went through a re-org wherin they appointed Suresh Vaswani and Girish Pranjapye as joint CEO. The fact is that due to this another re-org is emminent at the levels below. While top honches are dividing the org cake, the Wipro customers and employees are going through a torrent time. While this year it is a big change at top, but every year around last Quarter and first Wipro does this. The reason being that they are unable to get their act together. They do this by chewing away value added horizontals and verticals in the name of optimization and efficiency. But the fact is they are cutting away their investments into technology and solutions. The result is diluted core competency in technology and services. Going forward you are likely to see host of delivery and competent resource issues in customer engagments and projects. For a org like Wipro which like it peers is recuriting almost 95% of freshers every year the best structure would be to have dedicated and independent technology services unit to build competency around the technologies. Going forward please be beware of who wipro puts in your projects as they would be freshers. You should ensure to interview each one of the people to safegaurd your projects. Don’t get sucked into the Gyan of “Managed Delivery Model” or delivery based etc. Customers it is your risk and your Business that you need to safegaurd and ensure the quality of service. So far dedicated delivery org, CMM levels, Sig sigma, Comprehensive/Compulsory training programs that Wipro has preached has not worked for most of its customer. They are selling value and do not add anything to their delivery capability, The CSAT rating that it preaches about is completely an eye wash dont fall for this or other KPI’s. Best id to manage your own projects and use companies like Wipro as resource centers, but make sure to interview and verify each resource you take. It may be time consuming but is value and say “No more fancy re-org”
